How can I protect myself from potential fraud?

Fraudsters use various tactics to try to steal your data and money by impersonating idealista. We want to help you understand the tricks they use and how you can protect yourself to keep your information and money safe.

The first step is to secure your idealista account against any scammers:

  • Enable two-step authentication to prevent anyone from accessing your idealista account except you. When you activate two-step authentication, each time you need to log in to your account, we will send a code via SMS to your mobile, which you must enter on the idealista website to confirm that it is indeed you trying to access your private area. This way, even if your credentials were compromised, no one else could use them to access your account.
  • Use a strong password with a sufficient length, including uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters (. # @ …). The more complex it is, the harder it will be to hack. Also, if you notice any unusual activity in your account, change your password immediately.
  • Upload a photo to your profile: Fraudsters can clone our website, making you believe you are using idealista when, in fact, it is a fraudulent page designed to steal your idealista credentials or trick you into making a payment. Once you have activated two-step authentication, upload a profile picture of your room. This way, the next time you log in to idealista, you can check whether the photo displayed in the header of your account area matches the one in your profile.

Some scammers send emails and create websites that mimic our portal’s appearance, making you believe that idealista or one of our clients is contacting you with an offer for a listing, rental, or similar. Be extra cautious, as these fraudsters replicate our emails and websites in a highly sophisticated manner. They want you to think you are dealing with a genuine advertiser or idealista itself. They may ask you to log in with your idealista account details to steal your username and password. They may also request payment for a reservation, rental, etc.

It is crucial to recognise when such messages and websites are fraudulent so that you do not provide any information or make any financial transactions.
