The Local Police of Almenara (Castellón) have warned residents on social media about a new squatting tactic. Squatters are using deceptive methods to occupy empty homes without immediate detection.

Their approach involves adding a padlock and chain or even changing the lock on a vacant property. They then monitor the home for several days or weeks. If no one interferes with the lock, they assume the property is unoccupied and proceed to move in, avoiding the crime of breaking and entering.

In response, the Almenara Local Police have set up a specific protocol. If such squatting activity is detected, the police notify the homeowner and arrange the removal of the illegal padlock or lock. Additionally, a security service is deployed at the property to prevent further attempts.

The Local Police are urging residents to stay vigilant. If anyone notices a tampered padlock or lock on an unoccupied home, they should alert the authorities immediately. Community cooperation is essential to safeguard neighbourhood safety and curb these illegal activities.
