When do swimming pools open in Madrid? Dates and times
The 2026 summer season in the Spanish capital began on 15 May, in line with the San Isidro festivities, and will run until 6 September.
This year, 25 municipal outdoor swimming pools are open across the city. As in previous years, there are three daily time slots:
- Morning session: 10:00–15:00
- Afternoon session: 16:00–21:00
- Full-day session: 10:00–21:00
How much does entry to Madrid’s municipal swimming pools cost?
Madrid City Council is keeping the usual three time slots this summer: morning, afternoon and full day, with the same prices as last year.
- Morning or afternoon session:
- Children under 5: Free
- Children (5–14 years): €1.35
- Young people (15–26 years): €1.80
- Adults (27–64 years): €2.25
- Seniors (65+): €0.70
- Full-day session:
- Children under 5: Free
- Children (5–14 years): €2.70
- Young people (15–26 years): €3.60
- Adults (27–64 years): €4.50
- Seniors (65+): €1.35
How to pay for a municipal swimming pool in Madrid
Ticket purchases continue to focus on the digital system, helping to speed up entry and manage capacity. Tickets can be bought:
- Through the official City Council Sports website
- Via the Madrid Móvil app
- At the ticket office (limited availability)
Access is granted by showing the QR code on your mobile phone, with no need to print anything. The dynamic capacity system also remains in place, meaning spots can be released if visitors leave the facilities early.
New this summer, some pools are introducing additional sports activities included in the ticket price, reinforcing their role as spaces for active leisure.
Best swimming pools in Madrid
Casa de Campo
The municipal swimming pool at Casa de Campo is one of the key references when talking about outdoor pools in Madrid. Located in the city’s largest green space, it stands out for its size and natural surroundings.
It offers a chance to step away from the urban bustle and relax in a setting surrounded by trees and landscaped areas. As well as hosting this pool, Casa de Campo is undoubtedly Madrid’s green lung.
Vicente del Bosque (Fuencarral-El Pardo)
Located in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district, the Vicente del Bosque municipal pool is one of the most popular in northern Madrid. It forms part of a large open-air sports complex with several pools, spacious green areas and relaxation spaces.
Well connected by public transport, with access via Begoña metro station, it’s a practical choice for families and young people alike.
Cerro Almodóvar (Villa de Vallecas)
The municipal pool at the Cerro Almodóvar Sports Centre, in the Villa de Vallecas district, features three outdoor pools: one measuring 50 × 21 metres, a leisure pool and a children’s pool.
The complex also includes changing rooms, sunbathing areas and large green spaces. A range of sports activities is available, including summer camps and children’s swimming lessons, and it can be reached via Santa Eugenia Cercanías station.
Aluche (Latina)
Situated in the Latina district, the Aluche municipal pool is one of the largest and busiest in south-west Madrid. It offers a pleasant, green setting with wide lawns, several pools and sports areas.
It’s particularly appreciated for its family-friendly atmosphere and good transport links, including the C5 Cercanías line at Maestra Justa Freire station.
Moratalaz
The Moratalaz municipal pool, next to Arroyo Fontarrón park in the Pavones neighbourhood, is one of the most complete facilities in eastern Madrid. The sports centre has four pools of varying sizes and depths, suitable for both open swimming and lessons.
There are also generous green areas, a café and shaded spaces, and the summer pool has been renovated with laminated stainless steel wall panels.
Hortaleza
Well regarded for the quality of its facilities and its family-friendly feel, the municipal pool in Hortaleza is a strong option within the district. This aquatic complex in the northern part of Hortaleza features extensive green areas and a well-maintained range of services, including an Olympic-size pool and a children’s area.
The easiest way to reach it is via Line 4 of the Madrid metro, getting off at Hortaleza station.
La Elipa (Moratalaz)
In the Moratalaz district, the La Elipa municipal pool has established itself as one of the best municipal swimming pools in Madrid. It benefits from a convenient location close to residential areas and strong public transport connections.
The facilities include a 50 × 21 metre pool, an 825-square-metre leisure pool and a smaller pool for children, offering a reliable place to cool off in this part of the city.
El Quijote (Moncloa)
In the Moncloa district, El Quijote (formerly Francos Rodríguez) has two pools: a 36 × 20 metre leisure pool and a children’s pool. Refurbished in 2024, the site also includes a gym and padel courts.
The most convenient access is via line 7 of the metro at Francos Rodríguez station.
Puerta de Hierro (Moncloa-Aravaca)
Although it is not part of the city’s municipal pool network, Puerta de Hierro is managed by the Community of Madrid and charges a daily entrance fee of €5 per person.
It is the largest outdoor swimming facility in the region and one of the biggest in Spain. With several pools, including a large historic pool and children’s pools, it also offers extensive green areas, showers, changing rooms and a snack bar.
It opens during the summer with continuous hours from 11:00 to 19:45.
Paseo de la Dirección (Tetuán)
The municipal pool at the Paseo de la Dirección Sports Centre is the first summer pool to open in this district in more than 30 years.
Opened in 2024, it features a main 25 × 25 metre pool and a round children’s pool with a 7-metre diameter, along with changing rooms, lockers, a first aid point and spacious seating areas. Its maximum capacity is 250 people, and it is located in the Berruguete neighbourhood.
