Tais Hotels & Villas, the family-owned group behind the iconic Bahía del Duque in Tenerife, has set out an ambitious financial roadmap for the next four years. The company will roll out a €20 million investment plan between 2025 and 2028, aimed at strengthening its flagship hotel and the Las Villas complex as leading references in the international premium segment.

This strategic initiative is designed not only to upgrade existing assets but also to respond to the evolving expectations of high-spending travellers and enhance the group’s operational efficiency.

The most intensive phase of the programme will take place during the 2025–2026 period, when an extraordinary €13 million investment is scheduled.

This amount more than doubles the company’s historic average annual investment, which stood at around €3 million per year.

According to Francisco Javier Zamorano, CEO of Grupo CIO, the chain’s parent company, the programme reflects the family firm’s philosophy of continuous reinvestment to raise standards of excellence and safeguard the value of its assets in a highly competitive market. “Constant reinvestment is part of our DNA as a family business,” he said.

Comprehensive renovation and sustainability

The bulk of the funds will be allocated to the comprehensive renovation of the rooms at Bahía del Duque, integrating state-of-the-art technology, maximum connectivity and contemporary design criteria, without altering the Canarian architecture at the very essence of the hotel.

Meanwhile, in Las Villas – focused on an experience of maximum privacy and personalisation – improvements will be made to reinforce its exclusivity proposition.

The investment plan also foresees cross-cutting improvements in technological infrastructure, IT systems and, notably, sustainability initiatives.

In this regard, the group has stepped up its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by modernising its own desalination plants, sourcing 100% renewable electricity and introducing clean energy systems for domestic hot water production.

These measures form part of the management model for its 100,000-square-metre estate, whose botanical garden has created its own microclimate, becoming a benchmark for sustainability within the sector.

“Sustainability is both a responsibility and a genuine decision-making criterion for us. We are committed to investments that enable balanced growth, respect the environment and generate a positive impact on the destination,” emphasises Francisco Javier Zamorano.

Expansion and vision for the future

Beyond the refurbishment of its existing portfolio, Tais Hotels & Villas is also pursuing expansion through the Maguenes Resort project in Guía de Isora.

This sustainable luxury development, designed by the prestigious Foster + Partners studio, will feature a boutique hotel, private residences and a golf course designed by Gary Player.

For the group’s management, Maguenes represents a step forward towards what it describes as “conscious luxury”, closely tied to the land and the preservation of the surrounding landscape. “Maguenes embodies our vision for the future: conscious luxury, deeply connected to the land and focused on generating long-term value,” the CEO concludes.
