The 2026 Seville Fair is here! Once again, the city is preparing for one of its most anticipated weeks, when the fairgrounds become the social and cultural epicentre of the city. For almost seven days, locals and visitors alike will fill the casetas (tents), stroll beneath the red and white lanterns and enjoy a celebration brimming with tradition, music, local food and entertainment. Discover everything you need to know about this year's fair.

History of the Seville Fair

The Seville Fair originated in the 19th century. It was created in 1847 as a livestock fair, promoted by councillors José María Ybarra and Narciso Bonaplata, to promote agricultural and livestock trade. That first edition was held in the Prado de San Sebastián and was noticeably commercial in nature.

Over the years, the commercial aspect diminished, and it gradually transformed into a major social event. By the end of the 19th century, the design of the casetas, music style (sevillanas) and the jovial atmosphere had become firmly established.

In 1973, the Fair moved to its current location in Los Remedios to a larger, better-equipped space. Since then, it has evolved and become better known abroad, earning recognition as a Festival of International Tourist Interest while maintaining its essence.

Dates for the 2026 Seville Fair

The 2026 Seville April Fair will officially take place from Tuesday, 21 to Sunday, 26 April. It will be six full days of activity, following the original format of Tuesday to Sunday.

However, the fair actually begins the night before, on Monday evening, with the traditional Pescaíto, which marks the unofficial start of the big week.

What day is the Pescaíto at the Seville Fair 2026?

The popular Noche del Pescaíto will take place on Monday, 20 April 2026. That evening, the casetas host private dinners where fried fish is served – a popular dish in Andalusia – officially welcoming the start of the Feria.

Although it is not an official day within the festive calendar, for many locals, it represents the real start of their big week.

El Alumbrao

At midnight on the night of Monday, 20 April, the traditional El Alumbrao will take place, when the main entrance and fairground lights are turned on. Thousands of light bulbs will illuminate the main structure and the streets of the fairground, officially kicking off the 2026 Feria.

From that moment, the venue will be full of festive cheer until the early hours of Sunday 26 April, when a fireworks display will bring the celebration to a close.

Which days are public holidays during the 2026 Seville Fair?

In 2026, Wednesday, 22 April has been designated as a local holiday in Seville, so more people are likely to attend the feria on that day.

In addition to the local holiday, the week coincides with the post-Easter atmosphere, so visitors from different parts of Spain and Europe are likely to travel to the city to enjoy the celebrations.

The main gate to the 2026 Seville Fair

This year's main gate – la portada – is inspired by the Portuguese Pavilion of the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, reinterpreted with a monumental and balanced design.

It will feature a large central tower, two side towers and five arches, evoking historical architecture and commemorating the 500th anniversary of the marriage of Charles V and Isabella of Portugal, celebrated in the Royal Alcázar.

Measuring approximately 50 metres wide and 40 metres high, more than 28,000 light bulbs and thousands of metres of lighting, it will be one of the great visual attractions of the venue.
