If you're an animal lover keen to enjoy the sun and sea with your pet, it's worth knowing the best places to go. Alicante and its surrounding areas, home to numerous beaches, also offer ideal spots where pooches are permitted. Discover the top dog-friendly beaches in and around Alicante.

Agua Amarga Beach (Alicante)

This is one of the best-known and most well-equipped dog-friendly beaches in Spain. Located to the south of Alicante, near the El Altet salt flats, it stands out from other beaches thanks to the services it offers to make your visit more comfortable. These include regular cleaning, nearby beach bars, a designated area for dogs to relieve themselves and a dispenser providing waste bags for easy clean-up.

Caleta dels Gossets (Santa Pola)

Considered one of the best dog-friendly beaches in Alicante, this spot stands out for its mix of rocky areas and fine sand, offering a comfortable environment for both pets and their owners. Its popularity has grown thanks to these features, as well as the dog park that helps keep the space clean and shielded from surrounding vegetation. For safety and comfort, a maximum of two dogs per person is permitted, ensuring a pleasant experience for all.

Cabo Peñas Cove (Orihuela Costa)

Also known as Cala Mosca II, this was the first dog-friendly beach established on the Orihuela Costa. Situated in the Punta Prima area, it is known for its white sand and absence of rocks, offering a more comfortable experience for pets. Although access is via dirt tracks and the beach lacks many facilities, its unspoilt natural setting is one of its key attractions. Dogs must be registered, microchipped and have an up-to-date health passport to be able to enjoy this beach.

Playa Mar y Montaña (Altea)

In the picturesque town of Altea, this beach has welcomed dogs since 2016, although it is shared with dog-free bathers, so bear that in mind. Located in the L'Olla d'Altea area, it is a pebble beach with stunning views. Pets must be kept on a lead at all times, except when swimming in the sea.

Vilera del Xarco Beach (Villajoyosa)

A little further north, in Villajoyosa, lies Vilera del Xarco, near the residential area of the same name. This quiet cove lacks basic amenities, making it a natural, less crowded spot perfect for pets to roam freely. It’s also popular with diving enthusiasts. However, caution is advised due to the presence of numerous sea urchins.

Punta del Riu Beach (El Campello)

Situated between El Campello and San Juan de Alicante, beside the mouth of the Río Seco, this pebble beach offers a peaceful, natural setting for dogs and their owners. Open year-round for dogs, it may be a little tricky to access, but the stunning landscape and tranquil surroundings make it well worth the visit.

Barranc D'Aigües Beach (El Campello)

Another dog-friendly spot in Alicante is Playa Barranc d'Aigües, a tranquil cove ideal for dogs new to the sea or wary of waves. Its pebble shore and gentle waters create a calm environment, perfect for wary dogs and young children alike.

Cala Rocío (Torrevieja)

Cala Rocío is a fantastic spot for swimming with dogs in Alicante. This cosy, coarse-sand beach in Torrevieja lies just a 15-minute drive from the city centre. Its natural surroundings provide a peaceful, sheltered environment, perfect for a relaxing swim in calm waters. You'll find it south of Lago Rosa, nestled in a quiet residential area.
