If you’re eyeing up Girona Flower Festival 2026, locally called Girona Temps de Flors 2026, this is one of those events that actually lives up to the photos. For nine days each May, Girona is transformed by large-scale floral installations tucked into cloisters, staircases, courtyards and churches.

Girona Flower Festival 2026 dates and opening times

Girona Flower Festival takes place from 9th to 17th May 2026, following its usual nine-day format in the middle of the month. The event runs daily across multiple historic venues in the city centre.

The schedule is split between day and night access:

Day flowers (9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

This is when the full route across the Old Town is open. You can move between churches, courtyards, public buildings and outdoor installations at your own pace.

Night flowers

The evening openings change the mood completely. Stone cloisters and staircases are lit softly, and certain installations feel almost theatrical.

If you prefer a calmer atmosphere with fewer tour groups, late evening tends to be easier going than late morning. Entry to most installations is traditionally free, though some interior heritage spaces may have limited capacity at peak times.

  • 17 interior spaces
  • Until 11 p.m. Sunday to Friday
  • Until midnight on Saturdays

What makes Girona Temps de Flors 2026 special

Among Spain's unusual festivals, many cities host flower celebrations. The real difference with Girona Temps de Flors 2026 lies in its setting.

Instead of a single park or exhibition hall, the displays are integrated into places such as Romanesque and Gothic churches, Medieval staircases and private courtyards that are rarely open to the public. The narrow lanes of the Call Jueu (Jewish Quarter) are also a highlight, as are the historic gardens above the old city walls

Designers, local associations, schools and artists collaborate to create temporary installations that respond to each space’s architecture. There’s also a strong Catalan cultural thread running through the festival.

Catedral de Girona

The cathedral steps are one of the most photographed spots during the Girona Flower Festival. Floral compositions often run up the long staircase, creating a striking contrast against the pale stone façade.

Arab Baths

These Romanesque baths provide one of the most atmospheric interiors during Temps de Flors. Floral arrangements are placed around columns and beneath domed ceilings, where natural light filters in from above.

Jewish Quarter

The Call Jueu is one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters in Europe. Its tight alleyways and hidden courtyards host smaller, often more experimental installations.

Jardins dels Alemanys

Set slightly above the Old Town, these gardens offer open-air displays framed by views across Girona’s rooftops.

Monestir de Sant Pere de Galligants

This former Benedictine monastery, with its Romanesque cloister, regularly features floral compositions that emphasise symmetry and stonework.

Concerts during Girona Temps de Flors 2026

As part of Girona Temps de Flors 2026, several choral concerts. These performances take place in the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Girona and form part of the official cultural programme.

One of the most striking parts of the Girona Flower Festival isn’t made of flowers at all, but people. Castellera Day centres on the building of castells — traditional Catalan human towers formed by teams who climb onto one another’s shoulders to create astonishing vertical structures in public squares.

These towers are not just a spectacle. Recognised as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, castells are rooted in teamwork, balance and collective trust.
