Flight searches in the eighth month of the year are 12% higher than those registered in the same period last year

Searches for flights to Madrid in August are 12% higher than those in the same month last year, while hotel searches are 14% higher, according to data from the flight and hotel search engine Jetcost. The data indicates that Madrid is one of the top choices for European travellers looking to spend their summer holidays.

A large number of Europeans planning to travel during the August holidays this year are choosing Spain. The country’s climate, cultural richness, gastronomy, as well as its quality hotels and infrastructure, are some of the factors making Spain the most searched destination on Jetcost for August holidays, ahead of Italy and Portugal.

The Spanish capital is a top choice for European travellers. Madrid ranks as the third most popular city for Portuguese travellers, sixth for the French, eighth for the British, ninth for the Germans, and tenth for both the Italians and Dutch.

National and international tourism

Spaniards prefer to stay in Spain for their August holidays, with 17 out of the top 30 most requested locations being within Spain. Among these, Madrid ranks seventh in terms of global searches.

The rest of the Spanish destinations are Tenerife (1), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (2), Palma de Mallorca (3), Lanzarote (4), Menorca (10), Barcelona (11), Fuerteventura (12), Malaga ( 16), Ibiza (18), Santiago de Compostela (22), Alicante (23), Santander (24), Bilbao (25), Seville (28), Murcia (29) and Valencia (30).

The main European cities also rank highly on the list: Rome (5), London (6), Paris (8), Bucharest (9), Istanbul (12), Athens (17) and Lisbon (27).

Travellers who have chosen long-distance destinations have opted for New York (14), Havana (15), Bangkok (19), Tokyo (20), Buenos Aires (21) and Cancun (26).
