US retail giant TJX Companies will make its Spanish debut with its European brand, TJ Maxx, opening in Barcelona in spring 2026. Located in the Diagonal Mar shopping centre, the store will span over 2,100 m² on a single floor.
A global leader in the off-price format, TJ Maxx offers women’s, men’s and children’s fashion, footwear, handbags, beauty, accessories and home goods, with discounts of up to 60%. Its high-volume, constantly refreshed stock allows shoppers to “discover treasures” on every visit.
The move was no surprise. Months earlier, TJX had signalled its commitment to Spain by appointing Joanna Joyce from Cushman & Wakefield to lead its growth in the country. Her hiring was seen as a declaration of intent: the group aimed to accelerate expansion in a European market where it had no physical presence, despite strong fashion consumption and a growing value segment.
For Barcelona, the arrival of TJ Maxx brings a major international operator with a well-known European brand, especially in the UK, Ireland and Germany. It coincides with a transformation of brick-and-mortar retail, where shopping centres seek operators who can drive consistent footfall and attract diverse audiences. The off-price model fits perfectly, appealing to price-conscious shoppers without compromising on familiar brands.
The Diagonal Mar store is just the first step. TJ Maxx plans further openings in other major Spanish cities within its first year, adding competition to a segment that includes Primark and Lefties. Its entry underscores the strength of a model combining brand appeal, low prices and rapid stock turnover.
With this expansion, TJ Maxx begins a new chapter in Spanish retail, with the potential to generate footfall and revitalise commercial areas in the cities it enters.
