The rise of remote work has transformed the map of the most attractive cities to live and work in. In recent years, thousands of professionals have chosen to settle in destinations based on their quality of life and amenities. In this context, the "Holafly Digital Nomads 2026" report analyses remote workers' preferences and places several Spanish cities among the best-rated in the world, in a list clearly led by Spanish and Italian cities.

How were the best cities for remote work chosen?

The "Holafly Digital Nomads 2026" report is based on a combination of quantitative data and document analysis. On the one hand, a survey was conducted with 1,000 remote workers from ten countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Japan and India, to understand firsthand what factors truly influence their choice of destination.

On the other hand, the study includes a review of sector reports, academic studies, and specialist databases on international mobility and remote work. Based on these sources, a global index is created that evaluates various key aspects. Among the most valued criteria are:

  • Internet connection quality and stability
  • Specific visas or administrative facilities
  • Cost of living and value for money
  • Coworking and coliving space options
  • Safety and quality of life
  • International community and networking opportunities
