The arrival of autumn transforms the province of Barcelona into an especially appealing destination for a day trip or weekend escape. During this season, forests take on vibrant colours and villages settle into a quieter rhythm, all under pleasantly mild temperatures. From medieval centres to towns surrounded by woodland, here are some of the villages near Barcelona that are particularly worth visiting in autumn.
Rupit i Pruit
Rupit i Pruit is one of the most iconic villages in the Osona region. The suspension bridge is the village's most important landmark, which crosses the Rupit stream and leads into a historic centre of narrow streets, stone houses and wooden balconies.
Autumn is an excellent time to explore both the village and its surroundings, particularly the routes through the Collsacabra area. In addition to wandering around the old town, it's worth visiting Sant Miquel de Rupit Church and the nearby village of Pruit.
Tavertet
Tavertet stands on a dramatic cliff edge in Osona and offers some of the most spectacular panoramic views in the province of Barcelona. Its viewpoints overlook the Sau and Susqueda reservoirs and, on clear days, the silhouette of the Montseny massif. The village sits at an altitude of more than 800 metres.
The village preserves an impressive collection of stone houses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries, along with the Romanesque Church of Sant Cristòfol. The Pla del Castell and Mirador del Silenci viewpoints are particularly recommended for admiring the cliffs and autumn-coloured forests.
La Pobla de Lillet
Located in northern Berguedà, La Pobla de Lillet combines two of the great attractions of an autumn getaway: a medieval historic centre and a mountain setting. The Pont Vell, a single-arched bridge over the Llobregat River, is one of the town's most photographed landmarks.
It's also worth exploring the cobbled streets and visiting the Church of Santa Maria de Lillet. The town is closely linked to Antoni Gaudí through the Artigas Gardens, a remarkable early 20th-century project featuring bridges, fountains, vegetation and decorative elements inspired by nature.

Cànoves i Samalús
Cànoves i Samalús is one of the gateways to the Montseny massif from the Vallès Oriental region. The municipality is especially attractive in autumn thanks to the chestnut, holm oak and oak forests that surround the valley.
One of its best-known attractions is Baga d'en Cuc, home to the Can Cuc chestnut tree, a monumental specimen with a trunk so large that visitors can walk inside it. Routes beginning near the Vallforners reservoir provide access to one of Catalonia's most beautiful autumn woodlands.

Perafita
Perafita retains a strong rural character in the heart of Lluçanès. Its main street is lined with stone buildings and traditional houses, offering an excellent example of the vernacular architecture typical of this inland area of the province.
The surrounding trails connect farmhouses, springs, hermitages and open countryside, making Perafita an excellent choice for anyone seeking a peaceful rural escape. A visit would not be complete without trying the famous coca de Perafita, a sweet flatbread, one of the town's best-known local specialities.
Fogars de Montclús
Fogars de Montclús covers a large area of the Montseny Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve. Rather than revolving around a single urban centre, the village is best known for its woodland landscapes.
The Santa Fe del Montseny area is one of the main starting points for exploring the village. It is home to the Santa Fe reservoir and several signposted walking routes through the forest. Visitors can also explore areas such as Sant Marçal, where trails lead to some of the highest parts of the massif.

Sant Quintí de Mediona
Located in Alt Penedès, Sant Quintí de Mediona offers a distinctive combination of historic streets, water features and vineyards. The town is known for its many springs, while the Les Deus area is its principal natural attraction, featuring natural springs and a cave open to visitors.
A walk through the village reveals charming narrow streets and historic buildings, while the surrounding landscape forms part of the renowned Penedès wine region. In November, Sant Quintí also hosts the Mata-degolla festival, a historical re-enactment linked to the events of 1714.

Montclar
Montclar is one of the least populated municipalities in Berguedà and an appealing option for those looking to discover quieter, less crowded villages. Its recent history has been shaped by the revival of the town centre following the depopulation it experienced during the mid-20th century.
The town square, the rectory, the Church of Santa Creu, the Church of Sant Sebastià and the castle are among Montclar's most notable landmarks. In autumn, the surrounding fields and forests add even more charm to this peaceful village.
