The Property Guides website has recently carried out a survey on the growing desire of the British to buy property in "sunny Spain". The company has surveyed 2,800 participants to find out why Spain is such a desirable destination for British expats and whether recent events, such as Brexit or COVID-19, have affected their desire to purchase a property abroad.

The survey revealed that 60% of the participants want to buy a property in Spain after summer 2020. With a potenial move to Spain, 73% are looking for a healthier lifestyle, while 64% see Spain as a place to have a happy retirement and 49% are looking for new life adventures.

In addition, 61% of the participants are aware that they can get a residence permit and the right to Spanish healthcare if they buy a property in Spain before the end of the Brexit transition period which ends on 31st December 2020. Likewise, 66% are not worried about Brexit when they think about buying a house in Spain.

Christopher Nye, the content editor at Property Guides, points out that "our 2020 survey, conducted at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, picked up an incredible 3000 responses from potential property buyers looking for homes in Spain.

Nye points out that despite COVID-19 and Brexit, the British want that dream home abroad, and many want it now. More than one in three buyers want to buy property in Spain by the end of this year and more than 90% of those surveyed have savings or assets to pay for the purchase of a property.
