Gibraltar’s Westside reclamation is expected to create around 47,000 m² of new land in the northern half of the inner harbour, opposite Westview Park. Approved by the Development and Planning Commission on 28 May 2026, the site is planned for approximately 2,300 affordable homes allocated to Gibraltarians through Government housing schemes.

The Government has said there will be no private, open-market or commercially priced homes within the residential development. Construction is due to be phased, with dedicated accommodation for pensioners included so that elderly tenants can move into appropriately sized flats, releasing larger Government rental homes for growing families.

The project has prompted public debate over the environmental effects of major reclamation schemes in Gibraltar. Residents and environmental groups have raised concerns about possible consequences for coastal marine wildlife, and the Government has acknowledged the need for a specific environmental impact study.

Further details on the development, housing allocation and timetable are due to be announced. The Chief Minister has also said the area could potentially include provision for the schooling of children living there.
