The mayor of Málaga announces a plan with 17,000 new homes

The mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, has unveiled a municipal housing plan for 17,000 new homes, including 10,000 subsidised units. These are set to be built during the next term, 2027–2031. Among them are 1,500 “mini-flats,” initially planned at 35–45 m² but now increased to 45–60 m². De la Torre also confirmed that over 5,000 units will be completed before the end of this current term.

Málaga approves waste tax with no separate rate for tourist rentals

Tourist accommodations in Málaga will not face a separate waste collection fee. The city council has rejected a distinct system for holiday homes, meaning they will be charged like regular residential properties. The council estimates that waste collection will cost €63 million annually, to be covered by city residents, averaging around €140 per household each year.

State Ports scrap Málaga hotel skyscraper, seeking new tender

The developers of Málaga's Torre del Puerto, who submitted the final project less than a month ago, have received a negative response from State Ports. The agency, under the Ministry of Transport, is requesting additional documentation to justify the project’s public interest. It is also proposing a new tender, as the scheme – promoted by Hesperia Investment Group (Gihsa) and the Qatari fund Al Alfia via Andalusian Hospitality II – has seen three designs over nearly a decade of bureaucratic delays.
