Spain's new normal is here and with the lockdown regulations becoming more relaxed across the country, Madrid's parks are filling up with locals and visitors once again. However, Madrid's parks can get very busy, especially in the summer months, and while having to wear a face mask in public spaces where it isn't possible to maintain the 1.5 metre safety distance is compulsory, many will be looking for a quieter spot for a wander this summer.

Despite its busy parks, there are also certain places in Madrid, even in the centre, where you can find a quiet area for a relaxed walk. At certain times of the day there is very little public traffic and this means that you might even be able to take off your mask to breathe in some fresh air, only if and when there are no other people around and respecting the safety distance.

So, if this summer you're planning on spending time in Madrid, then make your way to these tried and tested parks where you'll be able to have a peaceful walk, a welcome break from the 4 walls of our homes or hotels.

Casa de Campo Lake

Often busy at weekends, during the week is the perfect time to visit Casa de Campo's famous lake, ideally between 13:00 and 18:00. Although this is the hottest time of the day, you'll be able to catch some shade at the edge of the lake, and even lie down to take a nap or have a picnic. It's best to avoid weekends and later in the evening if you want to avoid the crowds.

Real Jardín Botánico

The "Royal Botanical Garden" of Madrid is a true oasis right in the centre of Madrid. And despite its central location, once you enter the gates of this beautiful garden, you won't even notice that you are in the middle of a busy city. Relaxed walks, trees, flowers, fruit trees, greenhouses and most importantly, shade and coolness in the summer! Midweek, the gardens see less visitors and you'll only cross paths with a few other members of the public. Keep in mind that if you plan to visit Chema Madoz's photo exhibition which is located within the gardens, enter the shop or the coffee shop, then the use of face masks is mandatory.

Fuente del Berro

This beautiful park is located next to Madrid's bullring in Ventas. At the edge of M-30 motorway, this park is a true haven of tranquility during the week. If you avoid the early hours of the day (when many people are doing sport) or later in the evening after 18:00, then you will be able to wander freely and possibly not cross paths with a single soul. Despite its location beside one of Madrid's busiest roads, this park makes you feel like you are surrounded by nature, there are even some ducks, and the noise of the passing cars can't even be heard.

Quinta de los Molinos

Further from the centre, Quinta de los Molinos is well known for its beautiful blossom trees. During the week, it is not usually crowded and its spacious area means that you can easily go for a walk where there are no crowds.
