The Lord of the Rings is widely regarded as one of the greatest works of fantasy literature ever written. The story is set in Middle-earth, a fictional world created by Tolkien, and follows the adventures of hobbit Frodo Baggins and his companions as they try to destroy the One Ring, a powerful artifact created by the dark lord Sauron.
This story of hobbits, elves and fairies, which now returns with the series 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power', on Prime Video, has been a real gold mine for film directors, actors and other audiovisual personnel. But also for other areas, such as the hotel industry.
The good news is that you don't have to travel the whole way to New Zealand to visit the original Hobbiton village. Hobbit houses are now closer than ever, as Spain is now home to its very own hobbit village, where you can even stay in a hobbit house. Let's find out more.
Where are the hobbit houses in Spain?
This location of these unique houses, called 'Mi Tesoro Viveiro', is located in Viveiro, Lugo, in the province of Galicia in an area surrounded by green vegetation.
Stay in a hobbit house in Spain
To stay in one of these original houses, all you have to do is visit the website 'Mi Tesoro' and select the date that suits you best.
What are the hobbit houses in Galicia like?
The complex offers three types of houses, with a capacity of up to 6 people:
- El Faro del Norte
- La Estrella de los Mares
- La Cueva de la Sirena
All of them are equipped with heating, a full kitchen and bathroom.
The ecology of the hobbit lodges, together with the nature that surrounds them, makes staying in them a unique experience. The charming cottages are even covered with vegetation and half-buried high up in the hills.
The only difference is that they are much more modern than the ones in the novel: "I don't want to disappoint anyone, but the kitchen has a ceramic hob, extractor hood, heating, etc.," says Virginia, the owner.

The company, in addition to offering accommodation, prepares activities for its visitors, such as:

"With 4 beautiful horses, accustomed to long routes, we will take you to enjoy incredible landscapes and sunsets", explains Mi Tesoro. The prices for this activity are: 60 euros per person for the Route to the "Monte Castelo" viewpoint, and 30 euros for an initiation ride (approximately 1 hour).
- Bicycle rental: The complex has 5 bicycles, medium-large size, with which you can explore the surroundings. You can visit the beach or go on different routes in the area. The price is 10 euros per day.
- Boat routes: If you stay in Spain's hobbit houses, the accommodation also offers boat routes for a maximum of 5 people along the Viveiro estuary. The price of the route is 75 euros.
