The Benicassim International Festival, better known by its Spanish initials FIB, is one of the best-known, and best, events in the Spanish music calendar, with indie, pop, rock and electronic music, among other genres. There are also all kinds of activities going on over the weekend of FIB in July 2018, from cinema to fashion and theatre. It is held in mid-July in the town of Benicassim, Valencia.
The beaches of Benicassim
If you're going to Benicassim and are wondering what there is to see and do, here are a few options for you to make the most of your visit. This coastal destination on the sunny Costa del Azahar is one of the most popular in Spain because in addition to enjoying the sea and the beach, you can walk around and admire the spectacular scenery.
This place doesn’t leave anyone indifferent, especially if visitors take advantage of their time there to experience the wild world of FIB. If you’re there for a bit longer and fancy looking around the area, it’s possible to take short daytrips out for a change. The Oropesa del Mar-Benicassim route is particularly recommendable.
The beach of La Concha de Oropesa is by far Benicassim’s best beach. Make the most of the day by going to the port and to La Renegá, a very special and quiet place with gorgeous, relaxing coves. At lunch time, you can go into Benicasim town, to the promenade of the Torreón Beach, for example, and enjoy the atmosphere, the food and the views of the blue Mediterranean.
What’s the FIB line-up 2018?
It is one of the most well-established and important music festivals in the whole of Spain, right up there along with Mad Cool Madrid, BBK Live Bilbao and Primavera Sound Barcelona.
The most characteristic difference of this festival, though, revolves around its varied and innovative programme as opposed to the clearly defined musical styles of other events. It has an international following and many European visitors come to Benicassim every year just for FIB. The truth is that the location couldn't be better, with the perfect combination to enjoy good music and an incredible holiday in the Mediterranean.
The festival always has a very attractive line-up, which is why music lovers gather here every summer. This year is no different, with the likes of Rag ‘N’ Bone Man, Two Door Cinema Club, Eric Prydz, Chase & Status and Jessie Ware all playing, plus none other than Liam Gallagher himself.
It was two brothers, Miguel and José Morán, who originally set up the festival back in 1995. The first one worked so well thanks to the quality of the groups that participated, like The Planets or The Charlatans. Thousands and thousands of people attended the meeting held at the Benicassim Velodrome.
From there, new genres and musical styles were added, while the number of visitors grew steadily. Blur, Björk, The Cure, Oasis, Placebo, Depeche Mode, Franz Ferdinand, Keane, Leonard Cohen and many more famous groups and artists have all been on stage at this exciting festival.
