San Sebastian isn't just beautiful, it's welcoming too. Booking has published the 2023 edition of its survey on the most welcoming cities on the planet, and Spain comes third with San Sebastian.
After Matera topped the 2022 list, Italy has done it again this year, with Polignano a Mare taking the top spot. As well as other European destinations in Spain, Germany, Lithuania and the UK, the eleventh edition of Booking.com's Traveller Review Awards also featured cities as diverse as Mexico City, Porto de Galinhas in Brazil and Australia's Gold Coast. As in previous years, cities were nominated based on the number of partner accommodations that received a Traveller Review Award.
San Sebastian, also known as Donostia in Basque, is one of the most attractive cities in Spain. Located on the northern coast of the Iberian Peninsula, it lies on the Bay of La Concha, surrounded by mountains, making for a stunningly beautiful natural setting.
The city has a fascinating combination of architecture, urban planning and natural surroundings. The historic buildings, squares and cobbled streets of the old quarter invite you to stroll around and explore the city's heritage. San Sebastian also has several parks and gardens that provide a pleasant feeling of well-being.
One of San Sebastian's main attractions is its beaches. La Concha Beach is famous throughout Spain for its central location and spectacular views. Zurriola Beach, meanwhile, is popular among surfers, while Ondarreta Beach offers a quieter, more family-friendly atmosphere.
