In the fourth quarter of 2023, 13,565 transactions were recorded by non-resident foreigners in Spain, 8.6% less in the interannual rate, according to Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda data.

This figure represented 8.1% of all transactions recorded between October and December 2023, when 167,671 sales were made.

The number of transactions by foreigners residing in Spain reached 17,231 operations, 5.8% less compared to the same quarter of 2022. In total, transactions by foreigners, residents and non-residents, amounted to 30,796, 7% less in interannual rate.

Therefore, resident foreign buyers made most of the home purchases and sales in Spain in the fourth quarter of 2023 (56%).

Likewise, Ministry of Housing data show that transactions carried out by foreigners in Spain represented 18.4% of total sales, compared to 6.75% just over a decade ago.

By territory, the Valencian Community saw the most transactions by non-resident foreigners, with 5,276 operations in the fourth quarter. They are followed by Andalusia (3,266), Catalonia (1,327) and the Canary Islands (1,204). Similarly, transactions by foreigners residing in Spain were most abundant in the Valencian Community (4,207), Catalonia (3,318) and Andalusia (2,572).
