Moving to Spain doesn't have to cost a fortune if you know where to look and find cheap property for sale. The cheapest place to buy in Spain in 2021 is located in the province of Toledo and is El Carpio de Tajo. This municipality has the cheapest price square metre, with homeowners here asking for an average of 304 euros/m2, according to a study by idealista based on its price report for July 2021. Let's have a closer look at the cheapest places to buy property in Spain in 2021.

The cheapest towns to buy property in Spain

The podium of the 5 cheapest towns to buy property in Spain is completed by the Palencia town of Barruelo de Santullán (383 euros/m2) and 3 other municipalities in Castilla-La Mancha: Cebolla in Toledo (401 euros/m2) and the towns of Almadén (407 euros/m2) and Herencia (413 euros/m2) in the province of Ciudad Real. Sixth place goes to Mota del Cuervo in Cuenca (416 euros/m2).

Also with house prices below 450 euros per square metre are Malagón in Ciudad Real (426 euros/m2), Horcajo de Santiago in Cuenca (432 euros/m2) and Torralba de Calatrava in Ciudad Real (438 euros/m2). Moving outside Castile and León and Castilla-La Mancha, the next cheapest place to buy a house in Spain is Puerto Serrano (439 euros/m2) in the province of Cádiz, followed by Portillo de Toledo in Toledo (441 euros/m2), Carrión de Calatrava in Ciudad Real (445 euros/m2) and the Valencian municipality of La Pobla Llarga (448 euros/m2).

The ranking of cheap places to buy in Spain continues with the municipality of Moclín in Granada (456 euros/m2) and Tobarra in Albacete (456 euros/m2). This idealista study also looks at the cheapest towns in each of Spain's 17 autonomous communities, with the cheapest property found in Castilla-La Mancha in the province of Toledo, as mentioned above. The only Spanish region with average prices over 1,000 euros/m2 is the Balearic Islands, where property prices are among the highest in Spain.
