A piece of Spanish film history and the famous 1960s 'spaghetti western' productions directed by Italian director Sergio Leone remains for sale in the Tabernas desert in Almeria. The village that recreates the American Wild West, christened Western Leone, is now on sale for €2.5 million after being reduced by €300,000.
With a surface area of 85,964 m2 and 1,881 built square metres, this theme park recreates iconic buildings such as the saloon, the bank office, the sheriff's office, the funeral parlour and the telegraph office, among others, according to Remax Indalo, the company in charge of marketing the property.
The plot preserves the original sets from the filming of the movie Once Upon a Time in the West, starring Claudia Cardinale, Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda, directed by Sergio Leone, after he turned this piece of desert land in Almeria into the Wild West of the USA, from Arizona to Texas, with legendary films like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, For a Few Dollars More or A Fistful of Dollars starring Hollywood star, Clint Eastwood.
Currently operating as a Wild West theme park, it has been the setting and film set for many of the genre's best-known films. According to the brand, popular titles like Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Cleopatra (1963), A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), Patton (1970), Conan the Barbarian (1982) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) were filmed there.
Besides being a film set, this space has many other possible uses, such as a set for recording commercials and music videos or continuing as a theme park where part of the Almería Western Film Festival is also held.
