Fourteen Spanish airports feature in the 2025 AirHelp Score ranking, which ranks the world’s top 250 airports based on punctuality, passenger experience and service quality.

Bilbao Airport tops the national list and ranks 16th globally, making it the second-best airport in Europe.

The AirHelp Score, created by the international organisation AirHelp specialists in air passenger rights analyses data from 250 airports across 68 countries. This year, Spanish airports stood out, including new entries from the Canary Islands.

Bilbao, Spain's top airport and European reference

Bilbao Airport achieved an overall score of 8.16, boosted by consistent punctuality (8.3), positive user ratings (8.0) and quality of services (7.7). This places it as Spain’s top airport and second in Europe, although European airports still lag behind those in the Middle East, South Africa and North America.

Seville Airport ranks second nationally, climbing 30 places from 2024 to 68th globally, with a score of 7.78, standing out for passenger satisfaction (8.1), punctuality (7.9) and services (7.2).

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport dropped 26 places to 76th worldwide, scoring 7.75, losing its second place in Spain to Seville.

Valencia ranks fourth nationally and 81st globally with 7.73, followed by Fuerteventura (88) and Tenerife Norte (105).

Málaga ranks 124th internationally, climbing 55 places, while Alicante rises to 126th. Barcelona-El Prat, usually among the busiest, falls 38 places to 127th, placing ninth nationally. Gran Canaria completes Spain’s top ten, debuting at 138th.

The two Balearic airports in the ranking, Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca, saw significant drops: Ibiza fell 125 places to 203rd and Palma dropped 86 places to 208th.

Europe is improving, but still far from global leaders

Despite slight improvements, Europe has only one airport in the world’s top ten. Regulation EC 261, which targets delays over three hours, restricts regional efficiency compared to areas with stricter standards.

In the 2025 AirHelp Score ranking, the Middle East, South Africa and North America dominate the top spots, thanks to better punctuality, passenger satisfaction and service quality.
