Prefabricated homes have been fashionable for some years now, at least in Spain. In the last four years, the sale of this type of housing has multiplied by three, which is a remarkable evolution. Evidently, there are many reasons, from the ease of construction and installation, to the price, including the possibility of adapting it to the taste of the future tenant. In addition, the development of new technologies allows these types of homes to incorporate innovations that make them more environment conscious, something important at a time when concern for this issue is growing.
Despite this upward trend, there are still people who doubt the benefits of prefabricated, standardised homes, and who wonder if the comforts are comparable to those offered by conventional homes, made of brick and cement. In addition, it is also true that in the collective imagination there is still a certain image of a prefabricated home as something shabby. However, reality shows that there is no reason to doubt the former or to maintain the latter. And there are many examples.
Prefabricated homes can be built from a multitude of materials, from wood to steel, PVC to concrete. The latter stands out because constructions based on this material are very resistant to extreme weather conditions. In addition, unlike other materials, such as wood, they are also much more resistant to fire attacks. These constructions are based on blocks that have been previously manufactured, in such a way that they are moved to the chosen place to proceed immediately with construction. Therefore, the speed of execution, the strength of the structure and its resistance to critical situations make prefabricated concrete homes a good alternative for those seeking a house with all amenities, at a reasonable price.
If you are considering a prefabricated home, here are some examples of some built with standardised concrete modules:
This fantastic prefabricated home can be found in Mallorca, in enviable surroundings, as you can see in the photo. Its design and construction are the work of the company Inhaus, whose headquarters are located in Almussafes (Valencia). The house you are seeing is based on the Godella model, with a total area of 245m2, spread over two floors, and with minimalist decoration.
The model Paterna is also a product of Inhaus. The one shown in the photo corresponds to a project carried out in Barcelona. It also consists of two floors and combines light colours with darker ones, which gives it a very elegant touch. Its interior is lightly dominated by white, with small details in other tones that stand out, such as the brown of the Japanese style staircase.
Hormitech is another company dedicated to the sector of prefabricated homes. In their catalogue we find many options, each of them designed to meet specific needs. Among them, we find the HT1 model, with a ground floor for daytime living and a second floor, where the bedrooms are located. A characteristic element of this model is that the two modular levels that compose it are arranged perpendicularly, which allows a versatile outdoor area to be created on the ground floor for use as an outdoor porch or car park.
Modular Home also offers prefabricated homes with a modular concrete design, such as the model iHome. This designer home is conceived with the aim of finding the perfect balance between its multiple details and functionalities. Its area of over 350m2 is divided between two floors, which can accommodate up to six bedrooms.
A proposal from the company Modular is its model MH 40, simple and especially aimed at rustic environments. The number of its name refers to its surface, 40m2 which, despite what may seem, offers all the necessary comforts, thanks to a very practical layout; an open living room-kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. An added advantage is that its execution time is quite short: only 35 days.
The HT 4 model from Hormitech also offers some interesting features. The main difference to the previous one is that this model consists of a single floor, but its “L” shape makes it possible to clearly differentiate between two parts, one of which is dedicated to daily life and the other to the rest area. However, its design allows a second floor to be added if the needs of its inhabitants change, in order to accommodate up to four bedrooms. In terms of the colour palette, white dominates the interior and has been combined with other colours.
Another brand that offers interesting proposals is Homm Velatia, for example, this 200m2 house built in Las Rozas. The project was based on the idea of the person who is now inhabits the house, and is configured as a single floor and compact space, without corridors. In order to gain space outside, which can be used as a relaxation area or as a covered terrace, the two volumes that make up the house were slightly moved.
The predominantly white colour, mixed with greys and browns inside, transmits luminosity and elegance.
Somewhat smaller than the previous one, another project carried out by Homm Velatia is this dwelling located in Girona. Made up of almost 110m2 and an with impressive porch, this beautiful design fits perfectly into a pleasant natural environment. It has a single floor that houses two bedrooms and a spacious living room-kitchen, which is open to the outside thanks to its large windows.
