Meliá Hotels International opened Ngorongoro Lodge Meliá Collection in northern Tanzania as part of its expansion in Africa, as reported in a statement.
The establishment was renovated to become the company's fourth hotel in the country and the second of The Meliá Collection brand, a selection of exclusive hotels with "their own personality".
The hotel, which has 56 rooms, including six suites, 17 junior suites and one villa, is located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a Unesco World Heritage Site of more than 8,000 km2 and an iconic 600-metre-deep crater that is home to more than 25,000 wild animals and several species of great apes.
In line with Meliá's "firm" commitment to sustainability, the hotel renovation focused on protecting Ngorongoro's natural ecosystem and preserving the Maasai tribe's culture.
The Ngorongoro Lodge's dining options are also inspired by the destination. At The Crater Grill, guests will find traditional African cuisine with Asian influences and a selection of local fish and poultry.
The Ngorongoro Lodge also has a full spa, offering a destination-inspired experience, including the locally produced, natural Inaya Zanzibar brand, whose products are created with ingredients and properties from African nature.
Destination experiences
Moreover, the chain will offer "unique" activities at the hotel with treks and excursions, exhibitions and shows. Guests can discover the Ngorongoro Crater with a full-day game drive and discover Tanzania's wildlife, which includes spotting rhinos, lions and giraffes. This guided safari experience includes a picnic lunch.
In addition to the various experiences offered by Ngorongoro Lodge, Meliá has also created an exclusive travel itinerary across its hotels in Tanzania for guests looking to explore Tanzania's beauty and nature.
