Inditex is to launch its new retail concept, "El Apartamento", in Madrid, situated on one of the floors of Zara’s store on Calle Serrano. The space will offer a selection of the most exclusive Zara and Zara Home items, along with various features, including a coffee shop.
The announcement was made by CEO Óscar García Maceiras during a breakfast event organised by the Spanish Confederation of Managers and Executives (CEDE). He confirmed that the new space is set to open in the first quarter of next year.
As he explained, this concept was first introduced in September 2023 at a store in A Coruña on Calle Compostela, followed by Paris, with the Madrid store set to open soon.
“We are continually exploring new ways to engage with customers, seeking new and better locations and creating stores that are truly inspiring,” emphasised the Inditex executive. He also revealed that the company will open a new Zara store featuring men's clothing on Calle Hermosilla in just one week.
In this way, the group founded by Amancio Ortega reaffirms its commitment to Spain, the company’s largest market, which will celebrate 50 years since the opening of its first Zara store in A Coruña next May.
During his speech, the CEO of Inditex attributed the group’s growth to factors such as teamwork, talent and commitment. "An organisation is not the result of a single person. At Inditex, we are more than 160,000 people from 183 nationalities; a relatively young team, with an average age of around 30 and predominantly women. 76% of our staff are women," he said.
He also highlighted that the company is operating in a highly fragmented sector, citing the United States, its second-largest market, as an example. "For every $100 spent on fashion in the US, Inditex is currently able to capture 50 cents," he explained.
"The opportunities to continue progressing and growing are in our hands. What we have learned in recent times is our ability to capitalise on opportunities, increasingly understand our clients' expectations and market trends and execute them through our business model," he added.
"In our various commercial formats, across different chains, markets and both physical stores and online, we have seen a positive trend, which explains our results to date. However, we always say that yesterday’s sales do not guarantee today’s, and today’s sales do not guarantee tomorrow’s," he stressed.
García Maceiras highlighted that this is a process of "permanent improvement," where the company must "maintain the spirit of nonconformity" to continuously enhance its offerings and meet customer expectations.
To achieve this, the CEO of Inditex stressed the importance of logistics capacity. As part of this strategy, the group has announced a planned investment of €1.8 billion for 2024, in addition to €900 million this year and another €900 million in 2025, which will support the opening of a new Zara distribution logistics centre – the brand’s fifth, located in Zaragoza.
