Mallorca is renowned for its beaches, Mediterranean charm and bustling resorts. Yet beyond the crowds, the island is home to tiny villages where time seems to slow. Exploring these hidden gems offers a peaceful way to experience the island. Discover Mallorca’s smallest village.

What is Mallorca's smallest town?

By population, Mallorca’s smallest town is Escorca, a distinctive municipality tucked into the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana. Although it covers a large area, its registered population is tiny, making it the least populated municipality on the island.

In 2025, Escorca had just 199 residents and was especially celebrated for its stunning natural surroundings. It is home to some of Mallorca’s most iconic landscapes, including the Torrent de Pareis, the Lluc Sanctuary and the Cúber Reservoir.

Living in Escorca

Living in Escorca means embracing a quiet life deeply connected to nature. With few services and limited shops, daily life often involves trips to nearby towns and a reliance on self-sufficiency.

In return, residents enjoy near-total tranquillity, dark night skies perfect for stargazing and an ever-present connection to the surrounding mountains. The small community fosters close ties, where everyone knows one another and the sense of neighbourhood is particularly strong.

Mallorca's smallest town by area

While Escorca is Mallorca’s smallest town by population, Búger holds a different distinction: it is the municipality with the smallest area on the island. Situated inland in the Raiguer region, it covers just 8.28 km², far less than most other Mallorcan towns.

Despite its tiny size, Búger offers a well-rounded daily life, with a central square serving as the hub of social activity, alongside small shops, bars and a liveliness that belies its compact dimensions.
