Menorca offers beautiful coves and wide beaches where you can enjoy the sea with your pooch, although not all allow dogs during the bathing season. Local rules vary by municipality and time of year, so checking in advance is essential. Here are five dog-friendly beaches in Menorca where you can visit with your pet.

Ses Fontanelles (Ciutadella)

One of the dog-friendly beaches in Menorca is located in the municipality of Ciutadella, a small cove in the La Vall area. Measuring just 25 metres in length, it offers sandy shores and a small fishing harbour – giving it a peaceful and distinctive character.

Access is by foot from the Cala Algaiarens car park – a walk of around 15 minutes along the Camí de Cavalls. There are no time restrictions for bringing dogs, and it can be visited year-round – although there are no on-site facilities.

Binigaus (Es Migjorn Gran)

On the south coast, within the municipality of Es Migjorn Gran, lies Binigaus – a wide stretch of white sand and calm waters. It is one of the most popular choices for those seeking dog-friendly beaches in Menorca – particularly due to its easy access from Santo Tomás.

During the summer, dogs are allowed on the beach during restricted hours – generally between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. Outside the peak season, there are no time restrictions. It is advisable to head to the quieter end of the beach for a more relaxed experience.

Cala Fustam (Es Migjorn Gran)

More secluded and harder to reach, Cala Fustam is a small, unspoilt cove of around 25 metres, surrounded by pine forests and cliffs. It can be accessed after an approximately one-hour walk along the Camí de Cavalls from Santo Tomás or Cala Mitjana – or by boat. There are no on-site facilities.

Unlike other beaches in the municipality, there are no time restrictions for bringing dogs here – even in summer. According to local regulations, pets must be kept on a lead outside the water and have a microchip and up-to-date vaccinations.

Es Grau (Maó)

In the north-east of the island, within the s’Albufera des Grau Natural Park and part of the municipality of Maó, lies Es Grau beach – a wide sandy stretch with shallow waters, set beside a small traditional fishing village.

During the bathing season, dogs are generally allowed at limited times – typically between 8:30 p.m. and 10 a.m. – while in winter, there are no restrictions.

Sa Mesquida (Maó)

Also within the municipality of Maó, Sa Mesquida is located around eight kilometres from the town centre. It is a long beach of more than 300 metres, with fine sand and a semi-urban setting that still retains a relatively natural feel.

In summer, dogs are only permitted between 8:30 p.m. and 10 a.m., while outside the peak season, they can be brought at any time. Its length makes it easier to find quieter areas for a more relaxed visit.

When are dogs allowed on the beach in Menorca?

As a general rule, dogs are not permitted on Menorca’s beaches between 1 May and 31 October – except in areas where local councils have expressly authorised access. Outside this period, dogs are usually allowed without time restrictions – although they must always remain under the owner’s control.

On beaches where dogs are permitted, they must be kept on a lead when out of the water. When visiting the Menorcan coast with your dog, it is advisable to bring fresh water, avoid the hottest hours of the day and rinse the dog after swimming.
