On the one hand, there is the educational programme with dance and flamenco singing courses and different guitar courses. On the other hand, the festival has a programme of impressive professional concerts, with big names from the world of jazz, classical music and flamenco. Then there are additional activities like exhibitions, presentations and much more.
Cordoba, city of dreams
Take advantage of your stay in Cordoba to enjoy one of the most interesting music festivals in Spain and also to get to know the city. Cordoba is a World Heritage Site and you can discover the vestiges left over from the many cultures that have lived there over the centuries.
What is there to see in Cordoba? Well, you certainly can't miss out on the historical old town, as well as the squares, alleys and courtyards around the Mosque-Cathedral, which are the very essence of the city.
Cordoba is also a modern city, though, with everything that entails: a wide selection of cosmopolitan hotels, advanced infrastructures and cultural events, each one a delight for the senses.
Cordoba is culture, art and leisure with its many outstanding events, from concerts to flamenco festivals, as well as a lively nightlife. Its main landmark, the ruined city of Medina Azahara, is a must-see, although its nature also stands out, such as the Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro Natural Park and the Sierra de Hornachuelos. In these beautiful places, you can practice all kinds of outdoor sports while enjoying its ecological riches.
The international flavour of the Guitar Festival
Once you have a clear idea of what to do in Cordoba, all you have to do is participate in the Guitar Festival 2018. Many young people come to the city from all over to take part in the intensive guitar courses that are organised.
The origins of the festival go back to the eighties, when the renowned Spanish guitarist Paco Peña founded a flamenco centre and, with it, a meeting of students of this string instrument from all over the world. Some time later, the festival became more important and widespread and now the Gran Teatro of the city is responsible for organising everything.
The event lasts approximately two weeks. During this time there are concerts with all kinds of guitars. Presentations and exhibitions are also available, as well as conferences, courses and roundtable discussions.
Throughout its history, the festival has seen international artists and guitar gods pass across its stages, including Mark Knopfler, Chuck Berry, BB King and Bob Dylan, as well as respected Spanish artists such as Vicente Amigo, Tomatito and Paco de Lucía.
