Meliá Hotels International has announced that it will sign a new hotel in Lloret de Mar, bringing the hotelier to the Costa Brava, one of Spain's top holiday destinations. The current Gran Hotel Monterrey will be renovated and rebranded under the Mallorcan hotel brand thanks to an agreement with Okami Hotels, the property manager.

The future 'Meliá Lloret de Mar' is expected to open its doors in the second quarter of 2024, in time for the start of the high season. The establishment's opening will mark the chain's arrival on the Costa Brava.

"Meliá is a company with Mediterranean roots and, so we will continue to focus on Spain's holiday destinations and rebranding iconic hotels," said Meliá's Vice Chairman and CEO Gabriel Escarrer.

Before opening its doors, the hotel will be revamped to bring it up to Meliá Hotels & Resorts standards. The hotel will have 200 rooms, two outdoor swimming pools and a solarium. The wellness area will include a gym and spa. The hotel will have two restaurants (one à la carte), a bar and a pool bar.

Meliá Lloret de Mar will also have different areas for indoor and outdoor meetings and events. Its proximity to the city of Barcelona makes it an establishment with great potential for the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) segment, according to the hotelier.
