Iberostar Beachfront Resorts has opened its latest five-star hotel in Colònia de Sant Jordi, in southeast Mallorca. Set beside the iconic Es Trenc beach, the Iberostar Selection Es Trenc blends seamlessly into the surrounding Es Trenc–Salobrar de Campos Maritime-Terrestrial Natural Park, a protected area known for its outstanding natural beauty, ecological richness and cultural significance.
The new hotel has been conceived with a distinctive vision that highlights its connection to the local environment and heritage, offering guests an authentic experience centred around salt. This theme is reflected not only in its culinary offering, but also in the design, wellness concept and overall aesthetic. The property serves as a tribute to Mallorca’s craftsmanship, natural beauty and rich history.
This is made possible by the nearby Salinas d'Es Trenc, in southern Mallorca, a unique landscape shaped over centuries by the interaction between humans and nature. These salt flats stand as a living testament to a rich artisanal heritage.
The eleven-storey hotel features 145 rooms, each with a private terrace and views of the Mediterranean. Of these, 40 belong to the "Star Prestige" category, an exclusive tier designed to provide guests with a more personalised experience, including access to private areas and enhanced services.
The hotel also offers a private gym and two swimming pools: a main pool with a spacious sundeck and a rooftop infinity pool with panoramic views. The spa provides treatments inspired by the therapeutic properties of local salt, which contains 16 to 20 times more magnesium than standard sea salt.
The hotel features an à la carte restaurant named Salivent, a tribute to the salt and wind that shape this part of the island. Here, salt plays a central role in enhancing the flavours of the Mediterranean-inspired menu. Guests can also enjoy the Salt Bar, where cocktails are crafted with subtle saline notes.
Sustainability is a core pillar of Iberostar’s approach. The hotel operates entirely on renewable energy and has eliminated single-use plastics. It also takes active steps to reduce food waste and features energy-efficient systems throughout its rooms.
The hotel also promotes responsible water use by providing filtered water stations throughout the premises. Its restaurant sources ingredients from local producers who meet strict sustainability standards. Impressively, over 90% of the fish and seafood served come from certified sustainable fisheries.
