Madrid Easter week 2019

As well as many other cities in Spain, the Spanish capital of Madrid will be celebrating the Easter week public holiday 2019 in style. The Holy Week of Easter is a popular festival commemorating the Passion of Christ. This event is notable for its sacred music, its processions through the streets of Madrid and the costumes of the nazareno brothers who walk solemnly through the streets of Madrid.

Madrid, the capital of Spain

Madrid is the capital of both Spain and the Autonomous Community of the same name. It is right in the centre of the country, and it is where the main political, economic, cultural and social organs of the Spanish territory are located. Madrid has become an influential cultural and economic centre at the European level and is also a popular destination for holidays and city breaks in Spain.

Some of the best things to do and see in Madrid include monuments like the Cibeles fountain, the Puerta del Sol, the Retiro park, the Plaza Mayor, the Almudena Cathedral, the Plaza de España, Gran Vía, the Templo de Debod and the well-known bohemian Malasaña neighbourhood.

Easter in Madrid 2019

Easter in Madrid is the popular celebration of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that takes place each year in the capital of Spain.

This year, Easter weekend in Spain falls on Saturday 20th (Holy Saturday) and 21st April 2019 (Easter Sunday). During the Madrid Easter processions, you can enjoy watching people carry huge sculptures on the shoulders around the main streets of the city. These religious festival marches happen from 14th April – 21st April 2019.

One of the special things that makes the Madrid Easter parades different from other Holy Week celebrations in Spain is the music, bands, cornets and drums that accompany them, plus the spontaneous singing of the saetas religious songs.

If you’re thinking of visiting Madrid for a holiday, why not go during the Holy Week Easter festival and experience authentic Spanish culture like you’ve never seen it before!
