LA Almazara, located in the Serranía de Ronda (Málaga), has become the world's first bespoke olive mill, designed by renowned industrial designer Philippe Starck, requiring a total investment of €22 million.
LA Almazara is a venue designed to provide an immersive experience that celebrates extra virgin olive oil, featuring an operating oil press, a museum, a restaurant and a tasting and events area.
The President of the Andalusian Government, Juanma Moreno, stated during the inauguration that this is "a highly anticipated and ambitious project," in which €22 million has been invested, supported by the Andalusian Government through a Feder loan of just over €4 million from the Urban Development Funds.
According to Moreno, it is "the world's first boutique olive mill and a thematic museum dedicated to olive cultivation, with no other establishment boasting such unique features." He added that it has "the fortune to promote culture and all its potential; gastronomy, art and history." Furthermore, he stated, "it elevates oil to a product of excellence and innovation," and becomes "a source of economic diversification and wealth."
In this way, it is a pioneering project, a living work of art where every detail has been designed to be functional, creating a space that blends olive oil tradition with architectural innovation.
Starck has stated that LA Almazara is an "unusual, incredible and miraculous place where visitors can enjoy a powerful and radical experience that challenges and transforms." He added, "It is a collection of mysteries where the long-standing respect for olive oil blends with emotion. LA Almazara is a tribute to this respect for olive oil, rooted in all the civilisations that have preceded us."
Inside there is an EVOO museum dedicated, where visitors can enjoy a range of restaurants and a tasting area. "Always respectful and sacred, almost religious but not a belief, combined with intelligence and emotion, LA Almazara is a stark reminder that awakens, shakes, stirs, moves and pays tribute to the olive and its oil," emphasised Starck.
This project aims to highlight the culture, history and tradition of one of the flagship products of Spanish gastronomy, EVOO and reinvents the concept of olive oil tourism, culturally and economically enriching the region, positioning Ronda as a destination in the panorama of design and olive oil tourism worldwide.
