Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona) and Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid) have the lowest unemployment rates in Spain, with an estimated average of 5.3% for 2023. They are followed by Las Rozas (Madrid) at 5.7%, and Getxo (Vizcaya) and Majadahonda (Madrid), both at 6%, according to the Urban Indicators 2024 report published by the Spanish Institute of Statistics (INE).
Sant Cugat and Pozuelo once again ranked as having the lowest unemployment rates in this edition. However, in the 2022 data released in May 2023, Sant Cugat del Vallès reported a lower unemployment rate than Pozuelo.
On the other hand, Ceuta leads with an unemployment rate of 30.1%, followed by La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz) at 29.2%, Linares (Jaén) at 26.9%, Melilla at 24.6%, Granada at 24.1%, Huelva at 23.5% and Algeciras at 23.3%.
Notably, most of the 15 municipalities with the highest average unemployment rates estimated for 2023 are in Andalusia.
In addition to the municipalities already mentioned, the list includes Jerez de la Frontera (23%), Sanlúcar de Barrameda (21.9%), San Fernando (21.5%), Córdoba (21.1%), and Alcalá de Guadaíra (20.8%).
Outside Andalusia and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, the Extremaduran municipality of Mérida and the Toledo municipality of Talavera de la Reina both feature on this list with unemployment rates of 20.9%, as does Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with an estimated rate of 20.8% for 2023.
In contrast, among the 15 municipalities with the lowest unemployment rates, five are in the Community of Madrid (Pozuelo, Las Rozas, Majadahonda, Alcobendas and San Sebastián de los Reyes); four are in Catalonia (Sant Cugat, Barcelona, Castelldefels and Cerdanyola del Vallès); three are in the Basque Country (San Sebastián, Getxo and Vitoria); and one each is located in Castile and León (Burgos), Galicia (Santiago de Compostela) and Aragon (Zaragoza).
