The number of tourists visiting Spain in the first nine months of the year increased by 3.5% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching almost 76.5 million, the highest figure in the FRONTUR series compiled by the Spanish Statistics Institute (INE). In September alone, almost 9.7 million foreign visitors arrived in Spain, 0.8% more than in the same month of 2024 and the highest figure ever recorded for that month.
The main countries of origin in the first nine months of the year were the United Kingdom, with nearly 15.3 million and an increase of 4%; France, with more than 10.2 million and a decrease of 0.1%; and Germany, with nearly 9.5 million, a 1.4% increase.
The regions that have received the most tourists so far this year are Catalonia (15.8 million, no change compared to the same period in 2024), the Balearic Islands (13.7 million and an increase of 3.0%) and Andalusia (11.5 million, 7.3% more).
Hotels were the top accommodation choice for over 50 million people, compared to 9.4 million who opted for holiday rentals. Another 4 million stayed in their own homes, while an additional 8.2 million stayed with family or friends.
Spending also breaks records
Total spending by international tourists also reached record highs, totalling €105.828 billion between January and September, representing a 7% increase compared to the same period last year.
Between January and September, the United Kingdom had the highest cumulative spending, accounting for 18% of the total. It was followed by Germany (11.7%) and France (8.9%).
Spending in the ninth month of the year alone amounted to €13.4 billion, 6% more year-on-year, and also a record figure for this month.
