Travelling to Tenerife with your dog is becoming increasingly easy thanks to the beaches designated for canine access. While these are not the typical tourist beaches with sun loungers and extensive facilities, they are regulated areas where dogs can legally run, swim and enjoy the sea throughout the year. Below are some of the main dog-friendly beaches in Tenerife.
El Puertito de Güímar (Güímar)
Located on the island's east coast, next to the Güímar Yacht Club, this was Tenerife's first dog-friendly beach. Opened in 2013, it offers a comfortable and accessible setting where visitors can enjoy the sea with their pets. It is a black volcanic sand beach, around 200 metres long and partially sheltered by a breakwater.
It stands out as one of the best-equipped dog beaches on the island, with waste bins, nearby parking, easy access and even dog showers. As on all dog-friendly beaches, owners must clean up after their pets, while dogs classified as potentially dangerous must be kept on a lead and wear a muzzle.
Playa del Horno (Granadilla de Abona)
In the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, near El Médano, lies this wide dark-sand beach known as Playa del Horno, although many refer to it as El Confital. It offers a more natural and open environment with plenty of space for dogs to roam.
Access is via the TF-1, taking the exit towards Los Abrigos and continuing along a secondary road. The beach is open year-round, with no time restrictions. As there are no showers or extensive facilities, visitors are advised to bring their own water, waste bags and shade. The atmosphere is usually peaceful and relaxed.

Las Gaviotas Beach (Santa Cruz de Tenerife)
In the northeast of the island, close to the well-known Las Teresitas beach, lies Las Gaviotas, a black-sand cove surrounded by cliffs. Popular with visitors looking for a more natural, tranquil setting, it has recently introduced a designated area for dogs.
Access is permitted throughout the year within the designated section. Limited parking and some basic facilities are available, although it is advisable to come prepared. Visiting outside peak hours is highly recommended.

El Callao Beach (Arona)
In the municipality of Arona, specifically in the Palm-Mar area, lies another of Tenerife's dog-friendly beaches. This stretch of coastline is made up of volcanic rocks and pebbles rather than a wide sandy beach, giving it a more rugged and natural character.
It has waste containers and free parking nearby, although there are no shower facilities. Despite its rocky terrain, the area is relatively flat, making it comfortable to walk along with your dog.
