While Spain is mostly known for its sunshine and beaches, the country has far more to offer tourists than just that. Across Spain there are myriad small villages, or 'pueblos' to be discovered in every corner of Spain's diverse geography. Getting to know these charming villages is definitely one of the more interesting ideas for a trip in Spain if you don't want to just head to the coast, as walking their historic streets, mingling with their inhabitants, and simply enjoying the surrounding beauty will make you absolutely fall in love. And who knows, perhaps you will enjoy them so much you consider moving, buying a house in one of Spain's most beautiful villages.
Every year, the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain adds new villages to their ranks, which this year include Beget (in Girona), Valverde de la Vera (in Caceres), Cudillero (in Asturias), Agulo (in La Gomera) and more. Here, we present some houses for sale on idealista in these small towns that make an effort to take care of their environment and heritage. To form part of this network of the most beautiful villages, the town councils of these municipalities must comply with more than 40 criteria ranging from the care of their heritage, to the harmony and cleanliness of the municipality, the conservation of the façades in the village, the circulation of vehicles, and the care of flowers and green areas. And of course lets not forget cultural activity and attention to traditions. Below are the latest additions to the more than 100 municipalities that already form part of the association:
Beget, Girona

The origins of Beget, in the Alta Garrotxa natural preserve region of Girona, date back to the Middle Ages. The village grew up around the Church of Sant Cristòfol de Beget which was built between the 10th and 13th centuries. Today the village remains a small slice of quiet life surrounded by countryside: officially it has less than 30 permanent inhabitants! The village has two medieval bridges that cross the river Llierca beyond which the cobbled streets blend into the surrounding landscape.
If the idea of moving to Beget appeals to you, why mot take a look at this beautiful farmhouse for 1.3 million euros with 300 m2 in the village, currently for sale on idealista. If you just want to visit this lovely village, why not check out holiday rentals on offer in the area?
