Are you thinking about selling your home? Here are several improvements – some of which don't cost the Earth – that will make your home look more attractive and, more importantly, increase its value.
There are small things you can do to all of the rooms in your home that will improve them, make them look more modern and brighter and will end up making it worth more money. And you don't have to put yourself out of pocket either. All of our recommendations are cost-effective and won't take too much time either. Have we whetted your curiosity? Here are some simple improvements that make your home in Spain worth more.
Bathroom
Here's a basic bathroom change (if you haven't done it already): swap your bathtub for a shower tray. It is much more practical, will cut your water bills and save you space. It's all wins. If you're planning to sell your house, this type of refurbishment is a must. The building work, plumbing and tiling will cost around €1,500, plus the shower tray and screen of your choice. But it will be well worth it.

Don't want to change the bathtub and you have a curtain? Bin the curtain and install a screen. You will stop the water from leaking and you'll give your bathroom a new look.
You can also opt for a wall-hung washbasin or similar units that make the most of the space above the toilet.
Kitchen
If the worktops are very tired looking, fit new ones. If your kitchen is small, opt for a white worktop, as it brightens up the space and makes it feel more spacious.

Change the taps. Taps are important: opt for more modern and practical taps. Lastly, get a new hob. Don't see it as an expense but an investment. The safest ones are induction hobs, which do not turn on unless there is a pan on top of them.
Walls and floors
A lick of paint will make the house look as good as new. There is a lot of competition out there so it can be quite inexpensive. If the doors are in good condition, we recommend painting them. If your house is small, go for white. It may dirty easily, but you won't regret it.

Parquet floor: getting rid of it is not particularly low-cost and is certainly more expensive if you have to remove furniture (you're better off leaving the space free of clutter), but the house will look as good as new. It is especially worth it if the parquet is worn out.
Heating and air-conditioning
Don't have air conditioning? You should invest in it, as it can bump up your home's value. Get a quote now, as it will be cheaper than if you wait for summer to arrive, and the installers will be quicker off the mark too.

The same goes for the boiler: if the one you have is getting old, get a new one. You might be able to apply for a grant too, so bear this in mind when deciding which one to buy.
If you are not into air conditioning, install ceiling fans instead. They are very practical, consume less energy than air conditioning and some of them look good too.
Windows
It is certainly true that changing windows is not cheap, but, as with air conditioning, it is an element that adds value. Moreover, the autonomous communities' "Plan Renove" covers up to 40% of the renovation cost. If your current windows are good and insulate properly, but the frames are worn out, you can always paint them.
