Housing is currently the most pressing issue facing Spain, surpassing concerns such as inflation and immigration, according to data from the latest Eurobarometer conducted in October and presented this week in Madrid.

A significant 35% of Spaniards identify housing as the country’s primary problem, marking an 18-point increase from the previous Eurobarometer in the spring, where it ranked fifth. In contrast, at the EU level, only 13% of Europeans consider housing to be the main issue.

Housing is also a significant concern in other countries, with even higher percentages reported in Ireland (63%), Luxembourg (51%) and the Netherlands (47%).

In Spain, inflation ranks as the second major concern, cited by 30% of respondents. This marks a decline of eight points, slipping from the top spot. However, at the European level, inflation remains the primary issue, with 33% of those surveyed identifying it as their main worry.

Immigration is now the third main concern for Spaniards, rising from 14% to 21% since the spring. This figure aligns closely with the European average, which stands at 20%.

However, when asked about the main problem facing the EU, 34% of Spaniards point to immigration, compared to the European average of 28%. Concern about this issue among Spaniards has surged by 13 points since the last Eurobarometer.

The war in Ukraine and the international situation rank second and third, both cited by 27% of Spaniards. Compared to the previous survey, concern about the Ukrainian conflict has decreased by three points, while worry over the international situation has risen by five points.
