The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has described Madrid as the safest city in the world. He made the statement during a press briefing in which he announced that the federal government would take control of the Washington DC police, with the aim of reducing crime rates.
Trump, who believes the Spanish capital is a model to follow, presented a document entitled Making Washington DC Safe and Beautiful Again, in which the US capital appears as the city with the highest number of murders per 100,000 inhabitants – a total of 27 – according to figures provided by the White House and published by Next News Network.
Behind it are capitals such as Bogotá (Colombia), with 15 murders per 1,000 inhabitants, Mexico City with 10, Islamabad (Pakistan) with nine and Lima (Peru) with seven.
Further down the list, with crime rates at a minimum, are major capitals such as Ottawa (Canada), Paris (France), Havana (Cuba), Delhi (India), London (United Kingdom), and, at the very bottom, the Spanish capital: Madrid.

More officers to control the city
During the briefing, President Trump announced the deployment of 800 National Guard officers and 120 FBI members to curb unrest and bring down the crime rate. He also said he was considering involving the military if necessary.
In addition, the Republican also floated the idea of declaring a public security emergency and closing homeless shelters in order to “regain” control of the capital.
This new security operation will be overseen by the country’s Attorney General, Pam Bondi, who was also present during the president’s remarks. Trump accused undocumented immigrants of being responsible for these murders.
