If you’re hunting for the best Christmas market in Spain 2025, think twinkly plazas, proper regional treats like turrón, and stalls stacked with handmade gifts. Across big city squares and historic corners, it’s all about relaxed browsing, street music and a warm cup of chocolate to keep the chill off.

Madrid: Plaza Mayor Christmas Market

One of Spain's oldest and most iconic Christmas markets, the Plaza Mayor Market has over a hundred stalls tucked under the arcades. The market sells everything from nativity figures to tree ornaments and silly hats. It’s always lively, especially at weekends.

Don’t miss a mug of thick hot chocolate and a plate of churros while you wander under the lights—just keep an eye out for photo ops with the square’s costumed “elves”.

  • Dates: 27th November - 31st December 2025
  • What you can find: handmade baubles, nativity figurines, quirky hats, and Christmas sweets.

Barcelona: Fira de Santa Llúcia

Right in the shadow of Barcelona Cathedral, the Fira de Santa Llúcia is a Catalan classic that began in 1786. Expect plenty of locals hunting down quirky caganer figures, a typical Christmas tradition here, and moss for their nativity scenes. Plus, you'll get the chance to hear folk bands or join in a craft workshop.

It gets crowded most evenings, so if you fancy a quieter browse, weekday mornings are your friend.

  • Dates: 28th November - 23rd December 2025
  • What you can find: unique Catalan crafts, caganers (traditional figurines), moss and greenery for nativity scenes, and sweet roasted chestnuts.

Seville: Mercado Navideño de Artesanía

Seville’s main Christmas market has shifted to the leafy Cristina Gardens this year. It’s spot on for unique, handmade Andalusian crafts—pottery is a local strong point. Early afternoons are the calmest for browsing, and don’t forget to swing by the Nativity Scene Fair (9th November – 23rd December) if you love a proper belén with all the trimmings.

  • Dates: 5th December 2025 - 5th January 2026
  • What you can find: hand-painted ceramics, Andalusian pottery, jewellery, artisan gifts, and intricate nativity scene displays (belenes).

Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences hosts a properly modern Christmas market. Over 65 stalls bring together ceramics, wooden ornaments, foodie treats, and workshops where you can watch artisans at work—or let the kids loose painting candles and nutcrackers. Tips for visiting Christmas markets in Spain

  1. Beat the crowds by going first thing in the morning or later in the evening.
  2. Bring some cash, as smaller vendors often still prefer it.
  3. Keep an eye out for local snacks unique to each region, like honeyed pestiños in Andalusia or neules in Catalonia, as well as traditional Spanish food like turrón and polvorones.
  4. Chuck an extra layer in your bag, especially if you’re market-strolling in the north or anywhere near the mountains.
  5. Look for specialist stalls if you're after nativity figures, or seek out the feria del belén (Nativity Fair) in the bigger cities.
