Spain is one of the most sought-after destinations for expats who are thinking of emigrating for work purposes. According to a survey conducted by the consulting company Randstad, based on enquiries of workers from 33 countries, Spain ranks seventh, ahead of other attractive countries such as Italy or Japan.
At the top of the list is the USA, followed by Germany and Australia. In fourth place is the United Kingdom, followed by Canada and France. The next destination on the list is Spain, followed by Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Japan, Austria and Denmark. According to the study, Spain is especially popular among expats from Argentina, Chile, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal.
In the case of destinations sought by Spaniards who are willing to change country for work reasons, Germany, France and the USA stand out, followed by Italy, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Belgium.
And what are the reasons that motivate emigrants? A better and more interesting job is the determining factor for two out of three survey participants, while wage improvement is the driving force behind 54%.
"The search for employment outside of Spain is increasingly becoming a very popular option among professionals who would like to achieve a more satisfactory position in line with their interests and which allows them to reconcile work and personal life. Therefore, Spaniards no longer emigrate so much out of necessity, but rather to improve their work and living conditions," says Luis Perez, director of Institutional Relations.
In addition, Spanish workers like to work with people from other cultures. This is stated by 82.7% of the professionals surveyed in Spain, a percentage that is 3.3 percentage points above the global average (79.4%), and occupies one of the top positions among European countries, ahead of the United Kingdom (82.2%), France (79%) and Germany (68.4%).
