The state of alarm in Spain that had been in force since mid-March ended on 21st June. This means that the “new normal” has begun nationwide and will continue until an effective therapy or a corresponding vaccine against the coronavirus is found. However, the Spanish regional governments can still personalise and issue their own regulations to control this new style of everyday life and further prevent the spread of the virus.
Here we have summarised the most important rules for your 2020 beach holiday in Mallorca, so that you know what to expect when you get on the plane.
What are the rules at Mallorca Airport?
For all arriving travelers, everyone will have their temperature taken at Mallorca Airport. Anyone who shows signs of the COVID-19 disease must be tested and go into preventive self-isolation until the result is available. Masks are mandatory on the plane and at the airport.
Is there a mask requirement in Mallorca?
Wearing mouth and nose protection, such as face masks, has been compulsory in Spain since 21st May 2020 in open areas and publicly accessible spaces if the required minimum distance of 1.5 metres cannot be maintained. Masks are also required in shops and when visiting cultural or sporting events, as well as on public transport. This rule does not apply to children under the age of 6 and people who are not advised to wear a mask due to other health issues.
Are shops in Mallorca open?
Shops in Mallorca have reopened but have capacity limits. A maximum of 75% of potential customers are allowed to enter shops, for which there are no specific hygiene regulations. In small shops, customers are usually only served individually or in limited numbers, while the waiting customers queue up outside in an orderly manner, of course, while observing the minimum distance of 1.5 metres.
Can I go to the beach in Mallorca?
Beaches are open in Mallorca but also subject to restrictions. In order to be able to maintain the minimum distance of 1.5 metres between sunbeds and the maximum visitor capacity, each visitor or group of visitors is entitled to 4m2 on the beach. However, each municipality can determine how trips to the beach should be regulated in order to ensure the safety of all holidaymakers. Sport on the beach or in the water is allowed, but only individually or in pairs.
What about restaurants, bars and cafes in Mallorca?
In the outdoor or terrace area of restaurants, groups of up to 25 people can sit together. The previous maximum limit of 75% of the capacity does not apply to outdoor areas, but still applies inside restaurants, bars and cafés. Guests can be served at the counter until 10pm and the establishments must close at 2am.
Are discos and nightclubs open in Mallorca?
Clubs with a capacity of up to 300 people are allowed to open. However, dancing is not allowed. For this, operators may set up tables on the dance floor in order to be able to entertain guests while observing the required minimum distance.
What about hotels in Mallorca?
Hotels can accommodate up to 75% of their maximum occupancy, but must adhere to strict hygiene regulations. The common areas have to be disinfected several times a day and there will be no buffets.
