In another step towards normality after the coronavirus pandemic, the end of wearing face masks indoors in Spain is set to become a reality. Spain is to remove its indoor mask rule after Easter, as announced by the Spanish Health Minister Carolina Darias.
Spain removed the obligation to wear a mask outdoors earlier in 2022 after a surge in COVID-19 infections, and now face masks will also no longer be compulsory indoors in Spain. The proposal to remove indoor mask wearing in Spain should be approved by the Spanish Government on 19th April, and if everything goes according to plan, the indoor mask rule in Spain will be scrapped from 20th April. This is after Spain's famous Semana Santa celebrations, thanks to the advice of health experts suggested that this would be the most suitable time to relax the rules.
There are however a few exceptions where you will still have to wear a mask indoors in Spain. What are the remaining mask rules in Spain in 2022? Where do you still have to wear a mask in Spain? Masks in Spain will still be a requirement on public transport, in hospitals and in retirement homes. The authorities have also asked people to air on the side of caution and use common sense: it is still be advisable to wear a mask when with vulnerable people and when it is not possible to maintain a suitable social distance.
With Spain's new mask wearing rules, people will therefore be able to see each other's faces again in schools, shops, restaurants, bars and any other indoor space not included in the exceptions.
