At the beginning of the year, the Spanish government introduced a new benefit for mothers of young children (aged 0 to 3), which amounts to 1,200 euros per year. This comes as families in Spain struggle to cover the costs of childcare and baby essentials like nappies and formula due to inflation and the rising cost of living. Keep reading to find out who is eligible and how to apply for this benefit which is part of Spain’s new Family Law (Ley de Familias).

Who can apply for this 100 euro benefit?

All mothers with children aged between 0 and 3 years are eligible to receive the aid package, regardless of their employment status. While benefits for working mothers were already available, either as a monthly payment or a tax deduction, this new measure extends the assistance to all new mothers, regardless of whether they are employed or not.

Are there any requirements for receiving the benefit?

To be eligible for the benefit, aside from having a child under 3 years of age, you must be registered with Spain's social security system (having made contributions for at least 30 days), a mutual society, or already receiving financial assistance such as unemployment benefits. This means that foreign mothers who are legally residing in Spain and paying their social security contributions are also eligible to receive the 100 euro monthly benefit.
