Read on and drink up!

What to visit in Cambados, the home of Albariño wine

There are many things to see in Cambados. It's a fairly large town with an impressive parador inn you can stay in, an elegant manor house no less. Visitors should not miss a walk around its most outstanding spots, visiting the historic town centre, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

Its exquisite historical heritage is present in the 16th century ruins of Santa Mariña, as well as the Plaza de Fefináns, with the church of San Bieito (also 16th century) and the traditional Figueroa house in the Galician style. It is also worth visiting its other mansions of great cultural interest: Montesacro, Bazán, Condes de Maceda and Chariño-Sotomayor.

Wine tasting and much, much more

Every year, this popular festival takes place during the first week of August. The centre of attention at this event is undoubtedly Albariño wine, and visitors and Galicians alike will have the chance to taste this exquisite vino for 5 consecutive days, from 1st – 5th of the month.

The festival basically has two parts. On the one hand, you’ve got the official acts, solemn activities and very traditional parades, and, on the other hand, there are the public celebrations with workshops and courses, competitions, exhibitions, music and fireworks displays.

At any party worth its salt, there is no shortage of good drinking and eating, and the Festival of the Albariño is no different. Throughout the entire celebration, there is never any lack of party and fun, with a succession of wine stands from different winemakers, as well as food stalls located around them.

At the same time, it’s also possible to enjoy the great atmosphere and walk around the town to enjoy the popular food offered by its restaurants and inns. After all, they say that Albariño should be drunk on a full stomach!

The stalls and stands are set up in a part of town known as "La Calzada" and, after glugging down the tasty plonk, people traditionally have a little dance in the verbena open-air concert. In the main town square there are also live performances by musical groups and on the weekend, well-known bands will play in the Plaza de Fefiñáns. Finally, on the Sunday, the wineries that have been awarded the prize for best wine will be announced, so make sure you try that one too!
