Corpus Christi is a big deal in Granada, a proper knees-up that blends religious tradition with a lively, colourful street party. If you're in Spain in June, it's well worth a look.
What is Corpus Christi in Granada?
Corpus Christi, meaning "Body of Christ", is a Catholic feast celebrating the Eucharist. It's celebrated across Spain, but Granada's version is something special. As one of the city's most important festivals, it's a colourful mix of solemn processions and a full-blown fair, the Feria.
When is Corpus Christi in Granada 2025?
In 2025, the main Corpus Christi celebrations in Granada will be celebrated from 14th to 21st June.
Thursday 19th June is a public holiday, or festivo, so expect shops, schools and businesses to close on that day. Opening hours during the rest of the festivities will also be reduced.
The Feria usually kicks off a week or so before the main religious processions.

Corpus Christi processions in Granada
The two main processions take place on the 18th and 19th June, winding their way through the city streets of the city. On Wednesday, it's the La Tarasca procession, named after the mannequin that represents a woman who supposedly tamed a dragon. She parades through the city riding the dragon, accompanied by giant hollow figures called gigantes and cabezudos.
The day after, Thursday 19th June, is Corpus Christi Day, and the procession features the Custodia, a grand, ornate vessel containing the consecrated host. The processions are accompanied by the sounds of bands and the aroma of incense.
Feria de Corpus Christi in Granada 2025
The Feria is pure Andalusian party mode and lasts a whole week. It's held at the Almanjáyar fairground and opens on Saturday, 14th June at 11 pm with the lights turning on at midnight for the Alumbrao.
The sprawling site is filled with casetas, colourful marquees where you can eat, drink, and dance sevillanas until the wee hours. The atmosphere is electric, with families, friends, and visitors all joining in the revelry, often dressed in typical Andalusian attire.
All week there are flamenco shows, live music concerts, tapas competitions and other free activities.
How to get to the Corpus Christi Fair
You can catch special buses from the city centre to the fairground during the Feria for just €2. Taxis are another option, though they'll be in high demand. If you are driving, there is usually plenty of parking, but allow extra time.

Where to stay during Corpus Christi in Granada
If you're planning to visit Granada for Corpus Christi, book your accommodation well in advance, as things get snapped up quickly. The city centre is a handy base, putting you close to the processions and within easy reach of the fairground. The Albaicín, with its charming, narrow streets and stunning views, is another popular choice, but be prepared for some uphill climbs. For a quieter stay, consider the Realejo, the old Jewish quarter, which is still within walking distance of the action.
Experience Corpus Christi in Granada like a local
For the best views of the processions, try to snag a spot along the Carrera del Darro. Be prepared for crowds, though. At the Feria, pop into different casetas to sample the varied Andalusian food and local wines on offer. Don't be shy about joining in the dancing – even if you don't know the steps, the locals will be happy to show you.
