Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid) has retained its title as the Spanish town with the highest average gross income for the fourth consecutive year, reaching €85,323 – a 6.3% increase from €80,243 the previous year.
The Tax Agency's statistics on personal income tax filers in municipalities with over 1,000 residents (excluding the Basque Country and Navarre) offer a detailed view of average gross income and disposable income.
Pozuelo de Alarcón again ranks first, increasing its average gross income to €85,323, up from €80,243 the previous year. Average disposable income rose to €61,396, up from €57,977 in 2021. This town, with a population of 88,784, had 47,897 tax returns registered in 2022 (the year the data was last recorded).
The Balearic town of Valldemossa ranks second with an average income of €67,527, significantly up from €40,542 in 2021. Boadilla del Monte, a Madrid town, takes third place with an average gross income of €67,325 and an average disposable income of €49,281, both higher than the previous year.
In fourth place is Sant Just Desvern, a town in Barcelona with 20,462 inhabitants and 10,999 tax returns. It reported an average gross income of €67,169 and an average disposable income of €47,821.
The richest towns are mainly in Madrid and Barcelona
The top 10 highest-income towns in Spain are Cabrils (€66,571), Matadepera (€64,124), Sant Cugat del Vallés (€62,206), Venturada (€61,429), Rocafort (€61,226) and Alcobendas (€60,698).
Thus, Madrid and Barcelona provinces dominate the list with four towns each, while the Balearic Islands and Valencia each have one.
