If you're a remote worker or digital nomad, you could be in with the chance of living in the Canary Islands for free. We have the details.
One of the effects of the pandemic is the increase in remote working, teleworking and working from home with its many names. This trend has also given rise to holiday working, i.e. working from locations considered to be touristy. This phenomenon is on the rise, so much so that the Canary Islands have launched a contest to attract digital nomads and remote workers, offering 6 months' free accommodation as a prize. Let's see how you could live in the Canary Islands for free for 6 months.
"The best climate in the world wants remote workers": with this claim the Canary Islands are looking for digital nomads, i.e. remote workers who can carry out their tasks from anywhere in the world. At first glance, the offer is rather attractive, because a free 6 month stay is up for grabs in the archipelago.
To apply, you have to share a video presentation in English or Spanish on social media and answer the following question: "What do you do and what benefit would you get from working in the Canary Islands?". The video should be posted on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram or YouTube with the hashtag #RemoteWorkerWanted. Act quickly, as the deadline to apply is 9th June.
All of the information can be found on the official website of the initiative, which explains all the services and advantages of working remotely in the Canary Islands in Spain. These include:
- high-speed broadband
- connections with the main international airports;
- 1,500 km of coastline;
- 146 protected natural spaces.
The organisers also highlight another aspect, stating that working from the Canary Islands is "another way of looking at life: slower - for more living".
