Welcome to the Parc del Laberint d'Horta in Barcelona, a hedge maze in a beautiful garden. This little-known gem is located outside the centre of the city, and feels like stepping into a fairytale. Whether you really want to visit a maze in Spain or you’re just looking for different things to do in Barcelona, a trip to the Horta maze could be the perfect option for you.
The park dates back to 1791, making it the oldest garden in the city, and was financed by the famous Desvalls family of Barcelona. The style is a wonderful representation of what you always dreamed a maze should be like, with tall, green hedges, plus pavilions, statues and a pond all variously scattered around the area. The best time to go is in spring when the gardens are lush and healthy, and the flowers are in bloom.
The maze itself has more than 600 metres (2,000 feet) of winding paths to get lost in, a sure treat for the kids who will feel like they’re living in a magical, Alice in Wonderland-type world. If you manage to reach the centre of the labyrinth, you’ll be greeted by a statue of Eros, the Greek god of love. Why not stop for a cheeky kiss?
