On Barcelona's waterfront stands one of the city's most recognisable buildings: the W Barcelona, better known as the Vela Hotel. Designed by renowned architect Ricardo Bofill and opened in 2009, its sail-shaped silhouette has become a defining feature of the Barceloneta skyline. Wrapped in glass and positioned at the edge of the Mediterranean, the hotel was conceived to maximise sea views, making the surrounding landscape an essential part of the experience.

Spain received 9,7 million international tourists in June 2026, a 2.9% increase compared with the same month in 2025. This figure is on track to help break the record of nearly 97 million visitors in 2025.

Investment in Spain’s hotel sector continues to gain momentum. During the first half of 2026, 88 hotel assets and more than 12,000 rooms changed hands, pushing total investment to €2.46 billion, up 26.5% year-on-year, according to Colliers. The figure marks a record first half for the sector, underlining the strong appeal of the Spanish hotel market among chains, REITs, funds and private investors, particularly in premium assets and established tourist destinations.

This performance is driven by strong tourism demand and solid operating results, despite ongoing geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainty linked to conflicts in the Middle East. Barcelona ranks as the most attractive city for investment, sharing the top position with London, while Madrid also features among Europe’s top three destinations.

Previously the headquarters of the Andalusian Railway Company – and later home to the Southern Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) and the Andalusian Water Agency – the historic Palacio de la Tinta (which translates to Ink Palace) has now been transformed into a five‑star hotel. Designed by architect Julio O’Brien, the building dates back to 1908 and originally functioned as a railway administrative centre, when large amounts of ink were required daily for the manual issuing of tickets – a detail that gave the palace its distinctive name.

Sercotel Vime La Reserva Marbella has opened its doors – a four‑star hotel with 83 rooms and apartments set amid subtropical gardens near the beach. The property offers two outdoor swimming pools and a heated indoor pool, alongside a wellness area with gym, sauna and Turkish bath – combining resort‑style relaxation with a prime location close to Cabopino.

The REIT Atom Hoteles has completed the sale of the Eurostars Las Salinas hotel in the tourist resort of Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura, for €51 million – a transaction that fulfils the company's asset rotation plan for 2026.
